Restricted t-matchings in bipartite graphs

چکیده

Given a simple bipartite graph G and an integer t ≥ 2, we derive a formula for the maximum number of edges in a subgraph H of G so that H contains no node of degree larger than t and H contains no complete bipartite graph Kt,t as a subgraph. In the special case t = 2 this fomula was proved earlier by Z. Király [6], sharpening a result of D. Hartvigsen [4]. For any integer t ≥ 2, we also determine the maximum number of edges in a subgraph of G that contains no complete bipartite graph, as a subgraph, with more than t nodes. The proofs are based on a general min-max result of [2] concerning crossing bi-supermodular functions.

Coverings, matchings and paired domination in fuzzy graphs using strong arcs

The concepts of covering and matching in fuzzy graphs using strong arcs are introduced and obtained the relationship between them analogous to Gallai’s results in graphs. The notion of paired domination in fuzzy graphs using strong arcs is also studied. The strong paired domination number γspr of complete fuzzy graph and complete bipartite fuzzy graph is determined and obtained bounds for the s...

Alternating paths revisited II: restricted b-matchings in bipartite graphs

We give a constructive proof for a min-max relation on restricted b-matchings in bipartite graphs, extending results of Hartvigsen [5, 6], Király [7], and Frank [3]. Restricted b-matching is a special case of covering pairs of sets, for which Benczúr and Végh [1, 2] constructed a polynomial time algorithm – this implies a polynomial time algorithm for restricted b-matchings, as well. In this pa...

Controllability and matchings in random bipartite graphs

Motivated by an application in controllability we consider maximum matchings in random bipartite graphs G = (A,B). First we analyse Karp–Sipser’s algorithm to determine the asymptotic size of maximum matchings in random bipartite graphs with a fixed degree distribution. We then allow an adversary to delete one edge adjacent to every vertex in A in the more restricted model where each vertex in ...

Uniquely Restricted Matchings in Interval Graphs

A matching M in a graph G is said to be uniquely restricted if there is no other matching in G that matches the same set of vertices as M . We describe a polynomial-time algorithm to compute a maximum cardinality uniquely restricted matching in an interval graph, thereby answering a question of Golumbic et al. (“Uniquely restricted matchings”, M. C. Golumbic, T. Hirst and M. Lewenstein, Algorit...

Triangle-free graphs with uniquely restricted maximum matchings and their corresponding greedoids

A matchingM is uniquely restricted in a graph G if its saturated vertices induce a subgraph which has a unique perfect matching, namely M itself [M.C. Golumbic, T. Hirst, M. On the Number of Matchings in Regular Graphs

For the set of graphs with a given degree sequence, consisting of any number of 2s and 1s, and its subset of bipartite graphs, we characterize the optimal graphs who maximize and minimize the number of m-matchings. We find the expected value of the number of m-matchings of r-regular bipartite graphs on 2n vertices with respect to the two standard measures. We state and discuss the conjectured u...
